As you well know, the food you eat affects your body either positively or negatively. Different foods help different parts of the body. Some foods can help with the overall health of your vagina.

VAGINA pH BALANCE.

The vagina has a dynamic microbial ecosystem with varying vaginal pH levels. It has a pH scale, which, when imbalanced, can cause certain issues such as vaginitis and other diseases.

The balanced vaginal pH needs to stay between 3.8 and 4.2. If it strays out of balance for too long, bacteria have the opportunity to thrive and cause discomfort or an infection.

Imbalance can occur with substances that have a pH above 4.5, such as douches or fragranced soaps. This can upset the natural acidity of your vagina. While the vagina is quite good at protecting and cleaning itself, proper care, safe sex, good hygiene, and regular gynaecological check-ups can help maintain its balance.

Regular intake of water and dietary modifications can also be beneficial. Certain foods are guaranteed to help balance your pH scale and fight against infections and odour from the vagina.

YOGURT: Yogurt, especially plain varieties, is very beneficial for maintaining good vaginal health. The live bacteria cultures in yogurt (Lactobacillus acidophilus) help keep the vagina’s pH level in the acidic range, reducing the risk of yeast and other infections.

It contains chemicals like lactic acid that can inactivate other infection-causing organisms. It helps maintain healthy pH levels in the body.

CRANBERRY JUICE: 100% cranberry juice or concentrated cranberry extract capsules are loaded with antioxidants and acidic compounds that help fight urinary infections.

Studies show that cranberry juice is beneficial in preventing UTIs in women or recent UTI issues. They also contain plant compounds, vitamin E, and vitamin C that help boost immunity.

SWEET POTATOES: Sweet potatoes are rich in vitamin A and beta carotene, which contribute to making your vaginal and uterine walls strong and help prevent bacterial vaginosis (BV), a common vaginal infection.

Sweet potatoes are also rich in fibre, which may help stabilize insulin levels in those with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). By regulating blood sugar over the course of several months, the fibre in sweet potatoes may promote fertility and help to reduce symptoms.

PROBIOTICS-RICH FOODS: Probiotic foods such as yogurt and cheese are not only good for your gut. They can also help your recovery from BV and reduce overall symptoms. The bacterium helps keep your pH scale in check and prevents the growth of harmful bacteria. Studies show that probiotics help reduce the symptoms of BV, such as discharge and odour.

BOTTOM LINE: Try several recipes that incorporate these foods, and your vagina will thank you later.

Many factors affect vaginal odour and pH, including diet, hygiene, and sexual activity. While a vaginal odour may be noticeable, it may not be considered unhealthy. However, if you have both a vaginal odour and discharge, that isn’t normal. It may be a sign of infection, and I will advise you to visit your doctor. It is also necessary for you to stay well hydrated to help boost energy and circulation. Women experiencing vaginal dryness should drink six to eight glasses of water each day.
